Confession: Third Front irrelevant now, admits Left

The four Left parties, which received a drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls, met in New Delhi today to analyse the results and their future course of action.
The meeting at the CPI(M) headquarters was attended by CPI(M)’s Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury, CPI’s A B Bardhan and D Raja, RSP’s T J Chandrachoodan and Forward Bloc’s Debabrata Biswas and D Deverajan.
On whether the Third Front has become irrelevant, he said, “Temporarily it has. But with one defeat, you cannot write it off completely.”

Left leaders busy talking to big third front parties

Hopeful that big players of the third front will stick together, Left leaders spent Thursday keeping in touch with TDP, BJD, AIADMK and BSP leaders.
Sources said CPI’s national secretary D Raja spoke to BSP’s Satish Chandra Mishra. CPM general secretary Prakash Karat is already in regular touch with Mishra who is likely to represent BSP during May 18 meeting. ..More

The Third Front, the coalition of disparate political parties, is an illusion, a farce and a misnomer, say its rivals.
A team of Marxists, regional parties and headstrong leaders simply can’t exist for long, say political analysts. Congress president Sonia Gandhi says the Third Front is “prone to disintegration”.
