The Samajwadi Party on Sunday said it was open to a tie-up with the Congress after the Lok Sabha polls but ruled out any truck with the Third Front and the Left as they were aligned with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Analysis: So SP, RJD, LJP will join UPA. Fine. The Left also will join UPA. What happens to the ‘Third Front’? Will all the allies of Third Front (i.e. PMs in waiting) join the UPA? If so, imagine SP and BSP, Chandrababu Naidu and YSR, DMK and AIDMK - all in UPA!

Third Front could affect poll outcome, concedes PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday conceded that the decision of some Congress allies to form a separate front could affect the electoral outcome and said the Left parties and the Third Front were “unwittingly” helping the BJP.
“I would like the Samajwadi Party and Lok Janshakti Party to work together (with Congress). This could affect the electoral outcome to some extent,” he told journalists of the Indian Women’s Press Corps at an interaction in New Delhi.
