Pawar would have option to join Third Front post polls: Karat

Top CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat on Friday said NCP chief Sharad Pawar would have the option to join the Third Front after the elections as the “logic of the situation” would force him to do this.

Asked whether Pawar could be accepted as the prime ministerial candidate of the Third Front, he said the issue would be decided only after the elections.

His comments came ahead of a rally to be addressed by both Pawar and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Maharashtra on Friday…More..

Pawar hints on Third Front supporting him to be the PM

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday gave hints that he would like to be in the prime ministerial race and probably expects Left support in the bid in any muddled post-poll scenario.

Pawar said that Manmohan Singh was the prime ministerial candidate only of the Congress but parried questions whether the Left could put conditions on the issue of leadership in the event of a hung verdict.

“The situation is like school and college, where 60 marks are there for theory and 40 for practicals. Third Front-Left got marks from practicals.
Dismissing the view that the Third Front is like characters in search of a Prime Minister, he said it should not be forgotten that with the support of “major members of the Third Front” the UPA formed the government.

Not Left UPA: Pawar

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) will get the “magic figure” after the Lok Sabha polls and be in a position to form the next government at the Centre.

Addressing the media after releasing the NCP’s manifesto here, Pawar made it clear that the UPA would select its leader who would be the next prime minister.

Pawar reiterated that Manmohan Singh was the prime ministerial candidate of the Congress party and not the UPA. He pointed out that it was the NCP which had suggested the name of Singh as the next prime minister. ..More..

Sharad Pawar not to attend Third Front rally

Due to a so called ‘technical’ problem in the plane Sharad Pawar (NCP) will not attend the Third Front rally in Bhubaneswar (Orissa). Pawar was to attend the rally on the invitation from Naveen Patanaik (BJD).  Does this mean there is a shortage of planes to transport Pawar from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar?

If Media reports are to be believed Pawar will address the rally via phone! This would be a first one. The telco can surely advertise about their quality of sound being good which allowed Pawar to address a political rally via phone.

Pawar now says he wasn’t ‘aware’ the Left also was attending the rally !! The pressure from Congress seems to have worked.

Third Front: The games Sharad Pawar plays

On Friday, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar could not fly to Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, to attend a rally organised by the anti-Congress platform of the Left parties and the Biju Janata Dal due to “technical snag” in his aircraft.

The excuse given by Pawar cannot be easily believed because he could have organised a private aircraft at short notice given that his confidante Praful Patel is civil aviation minister.

Then, why did Pawar retreat?

It seems that like the old Chinese warriors, Pawar is sidestepping and not retreating….More
