India Inc hopes for a non-Left govt at Centre

India inc is waiting for a stable government led by the BJP or Congress as Lok Sabha election 2009 results comes to a close.

Goldman Sachs predicts that the major fear of Indian markets that the Third front will form a government will be eased if the projections of various exit polls come true. While the fear of Left playing some role in the government exists, the India Inc hopes for a government without any Left representation. It also reported that, reduction in the seats of the regional parties is a positive sign for decision making…More

Third Front will not support Congress, but will not bring it down

With exit polls indicating only a slender edge for the Congress and a crumbling of the Third Front, the Left could tacitly allow the formation of a Congress-led minority government.

CPM general secretary Prakash Karat (56) told Hindustan Times on Thursday that the Left would not “help the Congress” but said nothing to suggest it would bring down a Congress-led government in a trust vote if the Congress is the single-largest party.

It is also safe to infer that the Left would head for the Opposition benches and do nothing to pull down a Congress government down during a trust vote, to keep the BJP out.

Congress, BJP get a Buddha rap, Left a pat

Stressing that the Left parties were serious about not having any truck with the Congress this time, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday lambasted the Congress for “failing miserably in every sector”, due to which the Left is in the process of forging an alternate Third Front with other political parties.

“Agriculture sector growth has fallen to 2 per cent; farmers are committing suicide. There has been tremendous rise in the prices of essential commodities. Moreover, the Congress is out to make strategic partnership with the US. We want an independent foreign policy. The Third Front we are trying to forge has politicians who have experience in administration. We are focussing more on programmes and policies, rather than a prime ministerial candidate,” Bhattacharjee said….More..

Change in Mission, we want only non-BJP govt

Engaged in keeping the third front intact, Left is likely to leave a small window open to do business with Congress. An indication to this effect came from a top Left leader who said, “We will not let BJP exploit the situation and form the government.”

With exit polls pointing towards a hung Parliament, Left’s support will be crucial for Congress. But there are indications that even if Left does not support the government directly it may let a minority government run, just like PV Narasimha Rao did for five years.

But Left leaders admit that of the third front parties, AIADMK can go to either UPA or NDA while JD(S) will keep them guessing till the last minuteMore

Will Deve Gowda dump his son again?

Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has done it again. At a time, when his father Deve Gowda is focusing all his energy and time on reviving the Third Front, his son Kumaraswamy’s meeting with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has raised many an eyebrow in political circles, both in Delhi and Karnataka, on the “dependable” quotient of the Gowda clan.

It is no secret that Kumaraswamy had been maintaining a parallel connection with the Congress even while the patriarch was struggling to put up a united Third Front by talking to all and sundry at the national level. Even before the Lok Sabha poll dates were announced, the former CM “on an invitation from Sonia” had met and held talks for a possible prepoll pact with the Congress…More..
