BJD crucial to forming Third Front government: Karat

Orissa chief minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) head Naveen Patnaik will play a “key role” in forming a “non-Congress, secular Prakash Karat with Navin Patnaik government”, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) general secretary Prakash Karat said after meeting him here on Friday.

Sharad Pawar not to attend Third Front rally

Due to a so called ‘technical’ problem in the plane Sharad Pawar (NCP) will not attend the Third Front rally in Bhubaneswar (Orissa). Pawar was to attend the rally on the invitation from Naveen Patanaik (BJD).  Does this mean there is a shortage of planes to transport Pawar from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar?

If Media reports are to be believed Pawar will address the rally via phone! This would be a first one. The telco can surely advertise about their quality of sound being good which allowed Pawar to address a political rally via phone.

Pawar now says he wasn’t ‘aware’ the Left also was attending the rally !! The pressure from Congress seems to have worked.

BJD rebuts Gowda, says no decision on joining Third Front

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Tuesday evening denied former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda’s claim that it was joining the Third Front.

“I heard Gowda-ji on TV. But as of now, we are not committed to joining any front or alliance,” BJD spokesperson Damodar Rout told IANS by telephone from Orissa capital Bhubaneswár.

“We have not taken up the issue at all. As chief spokesperson of the BJD, I am saying we are not committed to any front at this time,” he asserted…More..

Deve Gowda confident BJD will join Third Front

Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has said he will join the Third Front without any condition after Wednesday’s trust vote in the state Assembly, former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) chief H D Deve Gowda said on Tuesday.

“I talked to Naveen Patnaik this morning. He told me that ‘after the trust vote, certainly I am going to join the Third Front. There is no condition’,” Deve Gowda told reporters on the sidelines a function at the JD (S) office…More..

PS: Finally BJD never joined Third Front.
